Authorities issued arrest warrants for six former and current CSU students, including three football players, who are being charged with theft and forgery, according to Linda Jensen, a spokeswoman for the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office.
The suspects are expected to turn themselves in today, the spokeswoman added.
Cornerback Robert Herbert, defensive lineman Brian Abata, and defensive back Micah Crews, as well as former football players Tramell McGill and Daniel Foster were charged. Current student Preston Garcia and Calee Jo Chleborn were also charged.
Herbert, Abata and Crews have been suspended from the team indefinitely, according to athletic department spokesman Gary Ozzello.
In a statement, Head Coach Sonny Lubick said the football team will cooperate fully with the investigation.
“We take these charges very seriously. Because of the nature of these allegations, the players involved have been temporarily suspended from the football team pending the outcome of the police investigation,” Lubick said.
Anne Hudgens, director of Judicial Affairs, said that the university will work with the police in this investigation, if needed.
“We will use any information provided by authorities to determine an appropriate disciplinary response,” Hudgens said.
