The CSU men’s golf team finished in ninth place Tuesday at the Callaway Golf Invitational in San Diego, Calif., at The Farms Golf Club. MWC rival San Diego State took the team title.
Head coach Jamie Bermel was not proud of his team’s performance.
“I’m pretty disappointed with our play,” Bermel said. “It was a hard course. It’s one of those courses where you could lose your ball on every hole. You had to pay attention to your shots.”
Freshman Zen Brown led the Rams with scores of 73-76-78 and finished tied for 26th at 11-over-par. Junior Derrick Whiting and senior Nate Pettitt tied for 30th at 12-over par, while junior Aaron Weston placed tied for 37th at 14-over-par. Belgium native freshman Herve Gevers finished tied for 52nd.
Senior Kevin McAlpine, who finished tied for 73rd, played the whole tournament with a broken knuckle, Bermel said. He said the injury contributed to McAlpine’s uncharacteristic performance.
On Monday the Rams head to Phoenix where they will compete in the Ron Moore Invitational.
