"The Black Death Wasn't a Plague"

4:10 p.m.

103 Pathology

Speaker John Cohn, professor in the department of immunology at the CU Medical School-Denver, will speculate what the Black Death might have really been. De Mussis described how the Tartars threw plague-infected corpses over the walls of Kaffa, starting the pandemic (and inventing bioweapons). But Boccaccio was a fiction writer, De Mussis wasn't there and the Tarter trebuchets weren't up to the job. The epidemiology as computed from parish records does not fit a rat-flea human transmission pattern.
