It was a big weekend for Rams tennis as they looked to see if several week's worth of focus would improve their doubles play. The Rams were successful while ultimately splitting the weekend's matches.

After starting the season at 1-3, the CSU women's team needed to improve and it would have to start with doubles play.

"We needed to work on doubles," said freshman Sarah Seltsam. "We have been taking doubles matches more seriously. In those close ones, you can learn a lot from losing."

The efforts paid off, as the team beat their opponents in nail-biting fashion, 9-8, 9-7 in UTEP as well as a 5-2 win and 9-8, 8-5 in their loss to New Mexico.

"It was our best doubles performance this season," said coach Jon Messick. "We were down and almost beat in doubles, but we came back and won."

The only consistent team so far this season includes Anne Andersen and Emily Kirchem, who are 3-1 in dual play.

Next up for the team is a match on Saturday versus Abilene Christian in Colorado Springs.
