Senior captain Vanessa Espinoza became the 14th player in CSU history to reach 1,000 points on Saturday in Las Vegas as the Rams took on UNLV at Cox Pavilion.

Espinoza was seven points shy of 1,000 going into the game and finished with nine points on the day. The Rams fell to the Las Vegas Rebels (15-8, 7-5 MWC) despite Espinoza's efforts by a score of 74-57, dropping their record to 8-15 on the season and 2-10 in the Mountain West Conference. With the victory, the Rebels became the 39th program in NCAA history to reach 600 wins.

UNLV is now sixth in the MWC standings while the Rams remain one spot ahead of bottom feeder, San Diego State.

The Rebels prevented CSU from scoring a field goal for the first nine minutes of the game, which led to a 14-0 run. The Rams were down 17 points at the half and fell behind by as many as 28 points at one point during the game.

The Rams came out stronger in the second half, taking a quick 8-3 run and bringing the score as close as 13 points, but could not get any closer. Senior forward Melissa Dennett scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Rams while senior center Lindsay Thomas and forward Casie Shepard both contributed 10 points to the final score. Junior guard Molly Nohr lead the team in rebounding with eight.

The Rebels had four players score in double digits, lead by forward Sherry McCracklin, who returned from a head injury in which she suffered a concussion against Wyoming on Feb. 4. She finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds followed by Kisha Lee who recorded 14 points and seven rebounds for the Rebels.

As a team, CSU shot 42.6 percent for the game, but only 3-for-11 (27.3 percent) from behind the 3-point arc. They had 18 turnovers, which has been a struggle for the Rams in their most recent games.

Next up, the Rams travel to Fort Worth to take on the TCU Horned Frogs on Wednesday.
