CSU's Athletic Director Mark Driscoll unexpectedly announced Tuesday that he is stepping down from his current position, citing that he wishes to return to his previous job as the president of First National Bank in Fort Collins. Driscoll will remain at CSU through March 31.

Driscoll's tenure at CSU started in August 2003. Under him, many of the athletic facilities, including Hughes Stadium, were renovated and improved. But he did little on the hiring front. His only hire was current women's basketball coach Jen Warden after asking for the resignation of previous coach Chris Denker.

Driscoll was liked and appreciated by many of his peers. He always displayed a smile and was approachable by professionals and students. He did what he could in the short time he was here for CSU athletics and for that we are grateful.

More importantly, we look forward to a new director to advance the athletics at this university. Much time, energy and money has been put into the football program. Other programs need this kind of assistance for CSU to be competitive with other Division-I schools. We push for the hire of someone who will keep CSU athletics at a high level and bring them to new heights.
