A man claiming to be a Safe Walk officer approached a female student walking alone on campus early Sunday morning.
According to a press release, the student was walking by the intramural fields around 1 a.m. when a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans approached her.
The student tried to verify his identity and when she found out the man was not with Safe Walk, he tried to grab her sweatshirt. She fled the area and is unsure if he tried to follow her.
The man is described as college-aged white male with brown hair, approximately 6 feet 6 inches tall and 225 pounds.
CSU Police Department Cpl. Yvonne Paez said similar incidents have not occurred in recent past.
"There's always a possibility for something like this," Paez said.
CSUPD urges everyone to take caution if approached by someone claiming to be with Safe Walk.
Safe Walk officers wear a distinctive yellow shirt or jacket and will have a police radio and an official CSUPD identification card.
Contact CSUPD immediately at 491-6425 if the identify of someone claiming to be with Safe Walk is questionable. Campus Service Officers and police officers are available 24 hours a day by calling 491-1155.
