Televangelist Pat Robertson is calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Are all the lights going out in Georgia? When will real Christians start standing up to forgive this man his trespass? Pat Robertson is a greater danger to the United States than President Chavez could ever be.
President Chavez is a threat to corporate control. He means to right the imbalances between rich and poor. Mr. Robertson is a threat to Christianity itself. He represents a growing intolerance that leaves America blind to the global effects of our economic and political domination.
The U.S. Air Force Academy now claims to have the right to determine which cadets are properly "churched". Those not properly "churched" are ushered into evangelical Christianity; a Colorado Congressional Representative, Tom Tancredo, suggested a couple weeks ago that the United States nuke Mecca and Medina. And in Fort Collins, signs on business entrances now warn members of the American Civil Liberties Union, MoveOn.org and Amnesty International to stay away.
How can Christians become standard bearers for peace? Try practicing the tenets of the Peacemaker Order. (www.peacemakercircle.org): Not Knowing, thereby giving up fixed ideas about yourself and others; Bearing Witness to everything around you without flinching, without judgment; and Loving Action which comes from Not Knowing.
Before all the lights go out from sea to shining sea remember it is not just America that must be crowned with brotherhood. It is all the peopled spaces that belt this tiny speck of blue-green brilliance orbiting the sun.
