When will everyone accept the fact that Lance Armstrong is the best cyclist of our generation? He has never used steroids and has proven it since his first Tour victory in 1999. Yes, there have been many insinuations and rumors made and each time Lance has denied them.

Eddy Merckx, arguably the greatest cyclist ever, came to Armstrong's defense after the latest accusations by Tour de France Director Jean-Marie Leblanc. Leblanc stated that blood samples from Armstrong's first Tour victory were tested and found to contain a red blood cell-booster EPO.

Armstrong did win six consecutive times after 1999, so why is it that the one being tested is 7 years old? Armstrong even paid for the doping tests himself during this year's tour. What else does this guy have to do, lose?

It's a wonder as to why every time Lance is accused of doping, it shows up in a French tabloid or newspaper. Jealousy may be playing into these malicious accusations. The French haven't won since Bernard Hinault in 1985. It wasn't enough that Lance had to ride through angry Europeans spitting in his face. He still has to defend himself every other week.

Please let this man enjoy his retirement and his family. He has accomplished one of the greatest sport feats of all-time. Don't tarnish his reputation with this played-out, witch hunt. Let him be remembered for what he is: an amazing athlete, a family man and a cancer survivor who took cycling to the next level with his hard work, determination and superior work ethic.
