A registered violent sexual predator's plan to move into a Fort Collins neighborhood has prompted police to hold a community meeting tonight for the convict's soon-to-be neighbors.
"We strongly believe it's important for people to get factual information," said Fort Collins Police Service spokeswoman, Rita Davis.
By law, officials must notify residents within a quarter mile radius that a violent sexual predator intends to move into the area.
Tonight's meeting would fill in any gaps and possibly dispel rumors that have stirred anxiety among residents, she said. Officials would also teach residents about sex offenders and answer questions.
Davis said the predator was recently released from prison but would not give the name or prospective address of the predator nor comment on the exact nature of his or her crimes. Such details would be divulged at the meeting, she said.
The meeting is set to run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church at 1005 Stover Street, which is within a quarter mile of the predator's proposed home. Residents unable to attend may request information from the FCPS at 221-6540.
