Scoring runs helped the CSU women's basketball team to a 56-49 victory over San Diego State on Saturday night in California.

With the win, the Rams ended a three-game losing streak and improved to 14-9 on the season and a 5-5 record in conference play. The Aztecs (7-16, 1-9) continued their conference losing streak, which is now at nine games.

The Rams started the game on a 7-0 run, but the Aztecs followed that with a 10-0 run of their own, sparked by a 3-pointer by sophomore forward Michelle Elliott. CSU took another run of 11-0 to take the lead for good.

Though they outscored the Rams 34-27 in the second half, the Aztecs could not regain the lead. Late in the second half, the Aztecs went on an 11-1 run but could only come within six points with 47 seconds on the clock.

The Rams held SDSU to 18.8 percent shooting in the first half and out-rebounded the Aztecs 49-38 in the game.

Junior forward Melissa Dennett led the Rams with 13 points and 11 rebounds, the eighth double-double of her career. The only other Ram to score in double figures was junior center Lindsay Thomas with 10 points.

Elliott led all players with 17 points, including 15 points from behind the arch. Senior forward Lindsey Casey added 12 points.

CSU will travel to Wyoming for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday night in Laramie, Wyo.
