Wrapping up its fall season, the CSU tennis team will be playing

in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region

Championships today through Sunday in Tulsa, Okla.

The tournament serves as a preliminary ranking competition for

the team’s competitive spring season. Junior Dasha Zhurin,

sophomores Carla Pallares and Jasmin Singh and freshman Emily

Kirchem will represent CSU.

Zhurin was the leading Ram in last year’s competition, winning

her first three matches and making it to the Sweet Sixteen. Kirchem

and Singh each won their first matches last year.

Zhurin is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Air Force

Academy Invite Oct. 8-10 and only needs nine victories to break

into the top five on the CSU career singles wins chart. Going into

the tournament, Zhurin has 56 singles wins. Sanja Hansson, who

graduated in 2003, holds the CSU singles career record with 77.

Singh and Pallares finished second in doubles competition at the

AFA Invite, losing the championship match to Colorado. Kirchem got

two victories at the AFA Invite, which was good enough for a

third-place finish.

After the ITA Central Region Championship, the Rams will be

preparing for the spring season, beginning on Jan. 22-23 with games

against Creighton and Nebraska.
