Police are currently investigating an attempted theft that

occurred Saturday around 5:30 p.m. in Morgan Library.

A young woman, visiting from Pueblo, was studying with her

boyfriend in the library when she caught a man attempting to steal

her purse.

Both the woman and her boyfriend had left her belongings

unattended, but from a nearby bookshelf she witnessed the attempted

theft.

“(She) watched him grab the purse and start to stuff it in his

backpack,” said CSU Police Department Administrative Lt. Karl

Swenson.

The woman approached the man and took her purse from him. She

then followed the man out of the library pointing the man out as a

thief, but no one tried to stop the man.

“No one would provide her any assistance,” Swenson said.

A library worker finally gave the woman a cell phone to report

the incident to the police.

Swenson said that this is merely one of six to eight thefts in

the last two weeks.

“We’ve had a number of thefts over there, so it’s probably not

his first,” Swenson said. “(It) certainly seems to be the same

pattern.”

Police are asking for the public’s assistance. If anyone has any

information about the man in the photos, please contact the police

at (970) 491-6425.
