For most of us, April 20, 1999, was a memorable day.
Whether you were in Colorado that day or not, but especially if
you were, you probably remember watching the tragedy at Columbine
High School in Littleton unfold on TV as the death toll rose with
the number of questions about what happened.
Still today, news about Columbine makes the front page of major
metropolitan newspapers and the tragedy appears on lists of school
violence across the country.
For many, the memory of first hearing about Columbine is more
vivid than today’s lunch. Almost every person who was in high
school in Colorado can tell you where he or she was and what he or
she was doing at the time of the shooting.
This tragedy is far hotline from history, especially for schools
like CSU, where so many students were directly affected by the
shootings.
Today we take time to remember those lost and those whose lives
have been affected – however tangentially or directly – by the
tragedy five years ago.
