Golfer Martin Laird continued his strong play dating to the fall
season with a fourth-place finish at the 58th annual Western
Intercollegiate Tuesday in San Jose, Calif. Laird shot a
1-under-par 69 the final two rounds of competition and finished
with a three-round total of 210, four shots off the lead.
Senior Nolan Martin finished in a tie for 21st place firing a
217 overall putting him 11 shots off the lead. Rounding out the
Rams’ lineup were James Kurtenbach who finished tied for 52nd, John
Hayes who finished tied for 57th and Kevin McAlpine who finished
strong to end in 68th place.
University of Colorado golfer Kane Webber won the tournament
shooting 5-under in the final two rounds to finish two shots ahead
of Long Beach State’s Bret Lederer. Colorado also finished first as
a team shooting a three-round 852, two shots ahead of the
University of California.
The Rams return to action April 1 through 3 when they head to
Laredo, Texas, for the Border Olympics.
