Laird leads CSU to tournament win
Martin Laird’s fifth-place finish led the CSU men’s golf team to
a one-stroke win at the Steve Kerr Invitational Saturday in
Buckeye, Ariz.
CSU finished with a combined team score of 873, or 21-over-par,
one stroke better than Texas – El Paso, according to an athletic
department release.
Laird finished with a two-over-par 215, shooting a 71, 68 and a
76 on the par-71 course. He finished 10 strokes behind the
University of Denver’s Barrett Jarosch, who won the tournament.
Ram Kevin McAlpine finished one stoke behind Laird in a tie for
sixth place, and Nolan Martin finished two strokes behind Laird and
tied for ninth for CSU.
The Rams beat out 13 other teams competing in the tournament
including Denver, Wyoming and Northern Colorado.
The men are now competing in the Western Intercollegiate in San
Jose, Calif., which ends today.
