CSU volleyball leads conference
The Mountain West Conference volleyball play is in full swing.
CSU leads the conference with a perfect 5-0 record. Here’s a look
at how the rest of the conference is doing and what they face
next.
Air Force Academy (10-8, 1-4)
The Falcons lost their fourth conference match this weekend
against San Diego State. It was also the team’s fourth consecutive
loss. Currently seventh in the conference, Air Force returns home
to host Wyoming and Colorado State this weekend.
Brigham Young University (13-5, 3-2)
Oct. 7 the Cougars beat in-state rival Weber State. The Cougars
are 52-0 lifetime against WSU. Friday BYU lost to conference foe
Utah. After losing the first two games, the Cougars won game three
by the score of 30-19, but lost game four 30-20. BYU hosts a
weekend series against San Diego State and UNLV with matches Friday
and Saturday nights.
Colorado State University (14-4, 5-0)
The Rams lead the conference and still have not lost a
conference match. CSU won their seventh straight match this weekend
against Wyoming, sweeping the Cowgirls in three games. The Rams go
on the road this weekend to face New Mexico and Air Force.
San Diego State University (12-8, 3-2)
After losing on the road to CSU on Oct. 4, the Aztecs have won
their last three matches at home, completing three game sweeps of
New Mexico and Air Force over the weekend. Currently fourth place
in the MWC, San Diego will take a trip through Utah this weekend to
play BYU and Utah.
University of New Mexico (3-15, 0-5)
The Lobos still have not won a conference game, losing to SDSU
Friday night and UNLV on Saturday. Both matches were decided in
three games. The last match the Lobos won was on Sept. 6 against
University of Delaware. New Mexico returns home this weekend
looking for security and their first conference win. They face CSU
Friday night and Wyoming on Saturday.
University of Nevada- Las Vegas (8-8, 2-3)
After losing five straight matches, the Rebels broke out against
Air Force last Thursday, winning their first conference match in
five games. They didn’t look back and quickly defeated New Mexico
in three games on Saturday. Junior setter Nikki King returned to
action against Air Force after an ankle injury. The team is 8-2 in
games that she has started. UNLV goes on a Utah road trip to face
the Utes and BYU this weekend.
University of Utah (10-6, 4-1)
After starting the season 6-4, the Utes have improved their
record through conference play. Their only conference loss was to
CSU. The Utes, picked to win the conference this year, have won
their last three matches and hope their road success continues at
home. The Utes play Air Force and New Mexico this weekend in Salt
Lake City.
University of Wyoming (13-7, 2-3)
The Cowgirls were riding a three game winning streak into this
past weekend when they dropped a three game match to CSU on Friday
night. Wyoming goes on the road this weekend to face Air Force on
Friday and New Mexico on Saturday.
