Men’s golf
Senior Martin Laird led the CSU men’s golf team to third place
in the second round of the Club Glove Intercollegiate tournament in
Somis, Calif.
Laird shot a first round 72 and 71 Monday and hopes to continue
his strong play in Tuesday’s final round. As a team the Rams are
third overall with a two-round total of 592 – 21 strokes behind
leader Pepperdine and three strokes behind Arizona State.
Laird is third overall going into Tuesday’s final round, while
senior Nolan Martin, who won the Rob Moore Invitational in Brighton
last week, is one stroke behind his teammate with a score of
144.
Nate Pettit (32nd place, 152 score), John Hayes (36, 153) and
Kevin McAlpine (59, 161) round out the Rams’ scorers.

Women’s golf
Senior golfer Trisha Quick finished the final day of the CU
Heather Farr Memorial in a tie for second place with a two-round
score of 145 Tuesday in Broomfield.
Overall, CSU finished in a tie for seventh place with a
two-round score of 615.
Quick led the Rams with a 1-over-par 73 on Tuesday and finished
1-over for the tournament. After shooting 318 as a team in Monday’s
first round, the Rams rebounded with a 297 in round two.
Senior Dawna Virdell finished tied for 23rd with a 9-over-par
153, followed by junior Kristen Campos (45th place, 158 score).
Sophomore Margaret Garehime and freshman Kylee King finished tied
for 64th with a score of 163.
Cassie Castleman of the University of Idaho won the tournament
with a 3-under score of 141.
The team now travels to compete in the Aztec Fall Golf
Invitational on Oct. 10 to 11 in San Diego, Calif.
